Community Involvement

The people who make up Centerra Co-Op believe in giving back to their communities. Our employees are involved in their churches, youth sports, 4-H, FFA, Scouting, community gardens, school PTOs, child and elderly advocacy groups, humane and animal rescue organizations, local government, county fairs and much, much more. Centerra Co-Op shares this ethos with its employees and not only encourages their participation in these activities and organizations, but also sponsors and supports various charity events and non-profits itself. To date, Centerra has donated more than $190,000 to benefit cancer research through the James Cancer Hospital Solove Research Institute.

Fueling the Cure was created with the hope of finding a common goal for agricultural cooperatives to work “cooperatively” together on, ultimately bettering their communities through the support of cancer research. By donating $1 per delivery stop of bulk propane, this organization as raised more than $1.5 million to promote cancer research and prevention. Centerra Co-Op hosts an annual golf outing to benefit Fueling the Cure at Hawks Nest Golf Course in Creston, Ohio. This year’s event takes place Friday, August 6, 2021.

United Way has a unique and critical role in Ashland County.  To put it simply, United Way is not about one cause or issue.  It is about empowering a community to work together to provide local solutions to local social challenges.  Join us in a journey…a journey that envisions Ashland County as a place where The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched…They must be touched with your Hearts! – a place that especially fosters hope and opportunity for everyone.  Every day United Way is recruiting people and organizations from all across Ashland County who bring the passion, expertise and resources to get things done.

A Home for Every Horse was created in 2011 in result to a partnership between the Equine Network, the nation’s leading publisher of equine-related content, and The American Horse Council’s Unwanted Horse Coalition. The program provides a resource for 501(c)(3) horse rescue organizations.

The A Home for Every Horse program helps connect rescue horses in need of homes, in over 600 rescues across the United States, with people looking for horses. To make the connection between rescue horses and homes, rescue organizations can list their horses for free on Equine.com, the world’s largest horse marketplace, where they can be seen by 300,000 visitors each month.

In 2019, Centerra Co-op partnered with Purina Mills and other agricultural companies to form a trail ride to support OSU James Cancer Hospital and A Home for Every Horse. This event is a great opportunity for fellowship with other horsefolk and to support two causes that are close to our hearts. In 2021, Spur for the Cure will take place on Saturday, September 25, at Camp Manatoc in the beautiful Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

Registration costs $50 per rider and includes one of two in-person trails or participation in a virtual trail ride, gifts valued at more than $100, lunch and a chance to win some great prizes! There will also be raffles and a silent auction the day of the event.
